Northwest Airlines mechanics go on strike, all parties agree

Northwest Airlines mechanics have gone on strike, and that can only mean one thing: Northwest Airlines mechanics have gone on strike.

For further analysis, The Armchair Politician turned to Northwest Airlines mechanics. According to one mechanic, "We're on strike." But another mechanic had a different take on the story: "We're picketing," he said. He paused, then added, "We're picketing because we're on strike."

Northwest Airlines executives seemed to share a similar sentiment with their striking mechanics. One vice president was quoted as saying, "The mechanics have gone on strike." It was clear there was no miscommunication between strikers and strikees.

Even sources outside of the fray seemed to understand the circumstances. Rep. Jim Oberstar was in Duluth to see the strike for himself, and was heard to remark, "The mechanics for Northwest Airlines have gone on strike. This much is certain." Laura Brown, a spokeswoman for the Federal Aviation Administration, said, "The mechanics have struck." When asked to elaborate, she replied, "They have gone on strike."
